Atlantic Sturgeon lives primarily in the ocean but migrates to coastal rivers for spawning. In New York, spawning and nursery grounds for juveniles are found only in the Lower Hudson River. It is classified as an Endangered Species by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and is protected in New York.
