Report an Environmental Violation Online

The New York State Environmental Conservation Police values the watchful eyes and ears of citizens concerned with our environment. Use this form to report suspected violations of New York State environmental conservation laws. Submitted forms are immediately forwarded 24/7/365 to DEC dispatchers. If an immediate response is needed, file your complaint by phone by calling the DEC Turn in Poachers and Polluters (TIPP) hotline at 1-800-TIPP-DEC (1-800-847-7332). Caution: never put yourself at risk to get any of the information. Gather whatever information you can without trespassing or exposing yourself to harmful materials or situations.

1. Who did it?

Describe any people or companies suspected to be involved. Names are valuable, including suspect names or businesses or company names.
Provide as many other details as possible, including suspect description (height,weight, clothing, etc.), vehicle descriptions (license plate
number, color, make, model, etc.), unusual details, etc.

2. What occurred?

Describe the nature of the problem, violation or suspicious activity as completely as possible, including all information you think would be helpful.
Complete, detailed reports can help determine the type of investigation needed. Photographs or videotape can be very helpful but cannot be attached
to this form - call the number above for information on forwarding these types of information.

3. When did it occur?

The date and time the incident occurred or when you first noticed it. Is it in progress right now? Does this happen routinely? Is this an ongoing matter?
The sooner an incident is reported the greater likelihood that an effective response can be made.

4. Where did it occur?

The location in New York State of the incident, including numbered street addresses if known. Include county, town, city or village if known.

Add any other information that you feel could help the investigating officer. Where can the officer locate evidence of the violations or crimes you are reporting? Do you know why this happened?
