Section 1.17: Southern Zone Archery Deer Season

§1.17 Southern Zone Archery Deer Season.

(a) Open areas. Any portion of the Southern Zone open to archery harvest of deer, pursuant to subdivision 2 of section 11-0907 of the Environmental Conservation Law, except Suffolk and Westchester Counties.

(b) Open season.

(1) The early Southern Zone archery deer season shall be the Saturday following the second Monday in October (Columbus Day) through the day prior to the opening of the regular Southern Zone deer season.

(2) The late Southern Zone archery deer season shall be the nine-day period immediately following the regular Southern Zone deer season .

(c) Valid Tags.

(1) During the early Southern Zone archery deer season, only bow/mz season either sex, bow/mz season antlerless, deer management permit, and deer management assistance permit tags are valid.

(2) During the late Southern Zone archery deer season, any unfilled deer tag for the current license year is valid, and any deer may be taken on a regular season tag.

(d) License requirements. Any person who hunts or takes deer during an archery deer season must possess, on his or her person, a license valid to hunt big game granting special archery season privileges.

(e) Other requirements. Except as otherwise provided in this section, the provisions of the Environmental Conservation Law relating to deer hunting, including hunting hours, manner of taking, tagging, reporting, possession, and transporting, shall apply to hunting and taking deer pursuant to this section.
