| 03/17 - 03/18 | Bow Hunter Education Youth Conservation Program | Peconic River Sportsman's Club, Manorville | A two day hands on program for the purpose of introducing 12-16 year olds to the basic principles of conservation, sportsman education and general outdoorsmanship. This program specializes in bow hunter education and upon completion provides participants with their Bow Hunter Education Certificate, which is required in New York State in order to purchase a bow hunting privilege. | 04/14 | Spring Fishing Festival | Belmont Lake State Park, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. | Kick-off the spring season with a day of fishing for the whole family! NYS DEC also stocks Belmont Lake with over 1,000 trout for the event. Loaner rods and free bait are available at this event! Cost: $8 parking fee; free with Empire Passport. In the event of inclement weather, call I FISH NY at (631) 444-0283 or Belmont Lake State Park directly at (631) 667-5055. There is no rain date for this event. For information on New York State Parks, please visit www.nysparks.com/. The freshwater fishing license requirement for anglers age 16 and older has been suspended for this event. Fishing activities offered will include open fishing, fishing instruction, fly casting demonstrations, a children's casting contest, and a fish cleaning station. In addition, display areas will be set up by the DEC and local fishing clubs. Loaner rods and free bait will be available free of charge. Because the supply of loaner rods is finite, participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing tackle if they have it. | 04/14 - 04/15 | Youth Conservation Program | Peconic River Sportsman's Club, Manorville | The 19th Annual Youth Conservation Program will be held on April 14 and 15, 2012 at the Peconic River Sportsmen's Club. Founded in 1994 by the NY Conservation Officers Association, DEC's Sportsman Education Program in Region 1, and members of the Peconic River Sportsmens Club in Manorvillle, YCP is a two day program that teaches young students between the ages of 12 to 15 the important aspects of Sportsmen Education. Instructors from DEC's Sportsmen Ed program, Peconic River Sportsmen, and ECOs from DEC's Division of Law Enforcement provide instruction in firearms safety and proficiency, wildlife identification, hunting ethics, field dressing game, archery, and orienteering. Successful completion results in the student being certified to obtain a small game hunting license. Students 14 and older may qualify for the archery license.
