04/05 Spring Fishing Festival Belmont Lake State Park, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Kick-off the spring season with a day of fishing for the whole family! NYS DEC also stocks Belmont Lake with over 1,000 trout for the event. Cost: $6 parking fee; free with Empire Passport.Directions: Take Southern State Parkway to exit 38 or take Sunrise Highway (Route 27) to Belmont Avenue exit 38. TBA Youth Conservation Program Peconic River Sportsmans' Club A two-day hands-on program for the purpose of introducing 12 - 15-year-olds to the basic principles of conservation, wise use of natural resources, sportsman education and general outdoorsmanship. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive their Hunter Education Training Certificate of Qualification, which is required to purchase a hunting license. In conjunction with National Fishing and Boating week, I FISH NY delivers basic surfcasting information such as casting techniques, lure selection and safety. Open fishing to follow. Age: 14 and up. Cost: Free. Event Limit: 30 participants. Directions: Take 495 to exit 63. Go north on Patchogue-Mount Sinai Road/Route 83. Follow until it ends. Make a right onto Route 25A. Freshwater license requirements are waived for the entire weekend. A children's casting contest is held throughout the event. Loaner rods and free bait are available at every event! Age: All. Parking Fee: $2. Directions: Take 495 to exit 59. Go north on Ocean Avenue. Bear left onto Rosevale Avenue. When road T's, make a right onto Lake Shore Road. Take a break from the blistering summer sun and try some cool, evening fishing. Geared to families, basic instruction focuses on fish identification, techniques, regulations and stewardship practices. Open fishing to follow.
