Fishing is a sport that can be enjoyed by the young and old. Learn some fishing basics and head out to one of New York's great fishing spots. Celebrate Smokey Bear's birthday at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center.

July 25 - Birdwatching
Birdwatching is a popular pasttime that costs little or no money and can be done right in your backyard or neighborhood park. Make a bird bath for your feathered friends. Head out to an environmental education center and learn about porcupines, owls, bears or bats.

July 11 - Camping
Pack up the family and go camping this summer at one of New York's beautiful campgrounds. Scoop for aquatic insects at Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center or search for frogs at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center.

June 27 - Nature Photography
Head outside and practice taking great photographs - of wildlife, landscapes, even weather. Go on a photograph scavenger hunt. Become a citizen scientist and count butterflies or bats at Five River Environmental Education Center.

June 13 - Outdoor Cooking
Learn to cook some fun meals over a camp fire. Head out to Five Rivers 40th Anniversary Celebration or spend the summer solstice strolling through Reinstein Woods.

May 30 - Hiking and Outdoor Skills
What better way to experience summertime in New York than getting outside on a family hike. Before you go, pack a safety pack so you are prepared. Learn about birds at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center or insects at Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center.

May 16 - Watching Wildlife
Did you know New York State is one of the top places to view wildlife in the country? There are plenty of great watchable wildlife sites in every corner of the state. Try something different and go on a night hike to find wildlife. Celebrate World Turtle Day at an environmental education center.

May 2 - Wildlife Workers
Learn how some animals can help us solve or manage environmental problems. Clean up the trails at Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center or go birdwatching at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. Help these "wildlife workers" by building a house for ladybugs or bats.

April 18 - Earth Day Every Day
Earth Day is April 22. Learn about a few of New York's conservation heroes. Go outside and keep a nature journal of your activities and observations. Help out on an Earth Day project at an environmental education center.

April 4 - Is It a Puddle or a Habitat?
Is there anything living in that puddle? Chances are good that the answer is yes! Visit a vernal pool or build a butterfly pond. Go fishing on Long Island, birding at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center or exploring water at Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center.

March 21 - Environmental Stewardship
Learn about environmental stewardship and small actions you can take that will help the environment. Go to a maple sugaring open house at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center or learn about salamanders at Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center.

March 7 - Cross-Country Skiing
Find some snow and learn some cross-country ski skills (or improve those you already have). Go to a Maple Sugar Open House at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center or on a Full Moon Walk at Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center.

February 22 - How Plants Survive the Winter
What happens to plants when the snow flies and the temperature plummets? See if you can identify a tree by just its twigs. Learn to snowshoe at an environmental education center.

February 8 - Become a Citizen Scientist
Participate in a citizen science program by watching birds, trees, turkeys or any wildlife that you can find in your yard or neighborhood. Join in the Great Backyard Bird Count at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center or Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center. If the weather cooperates, go snowshoeing or cross-country skiing at an environmental education center.

January 25 - Winter Tracks
Go outside to look for some animal tracks, or strap on snowshoes and make tracks of your own. Learn about groundhogs at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center or learn to ski or snowshoe at Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center.

January 11 - Working to Help the Environment
Do you think a job working to protect the environment might be for you? Learn about a few of the many environmental jobs at DEC. Watch winter birds at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center or squirrels at Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center.
