External and Internal E-Communications
Conservation Innovation Award
Award Recipient
Natalie Sacco - Biologist at DEC's Central Office in Albany
Summary of Accomplishments
Natalie works in the Bureau of Fish and Wildlife Services's Communication Unit for the Division. With an artist's eye and a biologist's training, Natalie has helped to dramatically improve what and how the Division communicates internally with staff, and externally with our stakeholders, constituents, and conservation partners. Running with the seed of an idea, Natalie created and developed Field Notes, the Division's electronic newsletter. Although it currently has a direct distribution of 3,500 subscribers, the content is much more broadly distributed. A favored feature is Natalie's "Did You Know" nature fun facts. Natalie also worked to restructure our Division's Internal Website to provide a suite of information to staff, from Standard Operating Procedure documents, to help with hiring, to staff directories and contact information. With her background in Marine Resources, she was particularly helpful in getting additional information on the website about management of marine resources and implementation of the marine fishing license/registry.
We all recognize that to engage the public and to be salient, people need to know what we do. Natalie has been helping to bring our Division's communication efforts forward considerably.
