Large Businesses
Pall Trinity Micro (2003) Pall Trinity Micro is a division of Pall Corporation located in Cortland, NY, where disposable and cleanable filter elements, filtration systems, filter housings, and metal filter media are manufactured. The projects resulted in the reduction of chemical and industrial waste related to manufacturing at the facility as well as reduction in water use.
Schenectady International, Inc. (2003) Schenectady International, Inc. (SII) is a global manufacturer of chemical intermediates that are used in the plastics, automotive and electronics industries. The New York operations in Rotterdam Junction are responsible for producing much of the domestic demand for resins used in tire and adhesive manufacture, as well as a significant portion of the market for carbonless copy paper, brake linings, and electronic materials. Review was undertaken to determine the best methods for handling the liquid waste streams to replace on-site incineration capability. This review resulted in a multi-faceted program that evolved into several significant waste reduction opportunities and a new raw material closed-loop reuse system.
Environmental, Community and Civic Organizations
Neighbors Against Garbage (NAG), Brooklyn, NY (2003) Neighbors Against Garbage (NAG) is a not-for-profit environmental justice and community planning organization based in the north side section of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. NAG urged that Tri-Boro Shelving be chosen as the primary offset as part of a "Good Neighbor Agreement" with New York Power Authority (NYPA) for the installation of a 47-megawatt electric generating gas turbine. With funding negotiated from NYPA and the New York State Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Tri-Boro Shelving installed an electrostatic powder spray system which resulted in zero emissions in a neighborhood that showed high incidence of asthma.
