Five Rivers Environmental Festival Set

The 35th annual Fall Festival will take place at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, 56 Game Farm Road, Delmar from noon to 4 p.m., on Saturday, September 20, 2014.

This family-oriented environmental celebration, co-sponsored by the Friends of Five Rivers, will feature a variety of hands-on activities, interactive exhibits and interpretive walks. Guided educational activities will provide firsthand opportunities to meet live animals up close and personal, collect insects, do a nature craft, cast for "backyard bass," shake hands with Smokey Bear, and much more. The collaborative extravaganza will also feature staffed exhibits and demonstrations from a wide range of local conservation partners. There will also be live music from two fabulous local bands-Acoustic Hartland and Cautiously Optimistic-as well as refreshments, plants and birdseed for sale.

The festival marks the official kick-off to the center's ambitious programming year, which reaches more than 115,000 people annually. The event is open to the public free of charge and will be held rain or shine. Please call 518-475-0291 for more information.

Five Rivers Environmental Education Center is a designated New York State Watchable Wildlife site, where wildlife viewing opportunities abound. Learn more about the Watchable Wildlife program by visiting DEC's website.
