DEC Commissioner Martens Announces Appointment of Major Timothy A. Duffy as Director of the Division of Law Enforcement

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Joe Martens today announced the appointment of Timothy A. Duffy to the position of director of the Division of Law Enforcement. As the new director, Duffy will oversee more than 330 sworn members of DEC's Division of Law Enforcement. The division focuses on enforcing the Environmental Conservation Law although they are empowered to enforce all laws of the state. Their mission encompasses two broad enforcement areas: fish and wildlife and environmental quality.

"It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Major Tim Duffy as the director of the Division of Law Enforcement," said Commissioner Martens. "Major Duffy's proven exemplary record and leadership within the Division of Law Enforcement will allow the division to continue its strong and essential support of DEC's programs. Major Duffy played a vital role in developing and implementing DEC's emergency response programs and, in collaboration with the program divisions, worked on important programs like ECO-Quality and Clean Hudson.

"I appreciate and thank Major Scott Florence for his service over the past four months as Acting Director of the Division of Law Enforcement," Commissioner Martens continued. "Major Florence's commitment to DEC and his willingness to step forward and lead during this interim period was very much appreciated."

In his career of more than 25 years with DEC's Division of Law Enforcement, most recently, Duffy served as Major where he supervised district command supervisors, support staff, and 100 sworn police officers. In that role, he was responsible for all administrative and operational activities for the lower Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island Regions of the state. Major Duffy also was responsible for command of statewide homeland security and emergency management units. Duffy graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
