New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame Honors DEC Environmental Conservation Officer Ricardo Grisolini

ECO Grisolini Receives Dave Pierce Memorial Award for His Work with Youth

The New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame (NYSOHOF) presented Environmental Conservation Officer (ECO) Ricardo Grisolini with the "Dave Pierce Memorial Award" at a ceremony held on Saturday, April 26, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced today. The award recognizes an individual involved in conservation who has worked closely with youth.

"ECO Grisolini has done an outstanding job in reaching out to young people and encouraging them to get involved in outdoor activities like hunting," said Major Scott Florence, acting director of DEC's Division of Law Enforcement. "Through his work with youth, ECO Grisolini is teaching them to be responsible hunters and lifetime stewards of our environment. He is a valuable asset to DEC and the region, and is well-deserving of this prestigious honor."

In April 2011, ECO Grisolini started the Oneida County Youth Turkey Hunting Program. Under this program, a DEC Environmental Conservation Officer serves as a mentor to young hunters who do not have a family member or adult mentor, which provides an opportunity for these young people to learn about and experience turkey hunting. This spring, 15 young people enrolled in the youth turkey hunting program from areas throughout Oneida County

ECO Grisolini tirelessly worked to identify properties for the youth hunts and also organizes a Safety Day so young people can learn about outdoor safety, turkey hunting techniques and patterning their gun.

ECO Grisolini is the third recipient of the David Pierce Memorial Award, and first ECO to receive this prestigious award, which is named after the late sportsmen's advocate, who was a strong proponent of conservation and outdoor recreation.

The NYSOHOF is committed to recognizing the dedication and efforts of individuals who have made a significant difference in conservation and enhancement of outdoor sports by inducting re into the Hall of Fame. Award are based on many years or even a lifetime of service.
