Statement from DEC Commissioner Joe Martens on Peace Bridge Air Quality Study
"In order to gain a more complete understanding of air quality in the neighborhood near the Peace Bridge, DEC will extend the monitoring process, add more air monitoring sites and include the upcoming high-traffic summer months, so that we can be assured that the area's air quality relating to particulate matter is thoroughly examined and understood.
"The initial air quality monitoring results gave us a snapshot of air quality surrounding the Peace Bridge prior to the start of construction, and we stand firmly on the factual data in the report derived from our monitoring efforts. In particular, the data from the Peace Bridge location fell well within health-based federal air quality standards."
