DEC Free Fishing Clinic to be Held at Little Red Lighthouse Festival
I FISH NY Clinic in Fort Washington Park, Manhattan
The state Department of Environmental Conservation's (DEC) I FISH NY program will offer a free fishing clinic at the Little Red Lighthouse Festival at Fort Washington Park in Manhattan on Saturday, October 12. The Little Red Lighthouse Festival is an annual event sponsored by the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation.
No fishing license or recreational marine registration is required for this designated "free fishing" event.
The festival will run from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Little Red Lighthouse in Fort Washington Park. DEC's free fishing clinic will be held just south of the Lighthouse, beginning at 12:15 p.m. with educational information on fish species, recreational fishing regulations and fish consumption advisories. At 12:45 p.m. DEC will provide participants with fishing rods and bait and assist in teaching fishing techniques.
To further encourage fishing in New York State, Governor Cuomo signed legislation last year expanding the opportunity for free fishing clinics, allowing more New Yorkers to experience fishing for the first time by enabling DEC to increase the number of free clinics that can be held throughout the state. The Free Fishing Days program began in 1991 to allow all people the opportunity to sample the incredible fishing New York State has to offer.

The I FISH NY program is a joint initiative between DEC and New York Sea Grant that introduces urban residents to fishing in New York State. For more information on the I FISH NY program, please visit the DEC website.
