Open Space Plan Regional Advisory Committee Meetings Announced
A meeting of the Region 1 Open Space Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) is scheduled for March 15, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Regional Director Peter A. Scully announced today. The Regional Advisory Committee, which advises DEC and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (Parks) regarding open space conservation, will meet at the Childs Mansion in East Setauket from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
DEC and Parks are co-lead agencies of the New York State Open Space Conservation Plan, which serves as a blueprint for the State's land conservation efforts. The Open Space Plan is updated every few years, as required by law, to adjust for shifting land conservation priorities. The Regional Advisory Committee provides recommendations for inclusion in the revised Open Space Plan. The last Open Space Plan was released in 2009.
The Region 1 Regional Advisory Committee is comprised of 21 land conservation professionals from across Long Island. The Nassau and Suffolk County Executives each appointed five representatives to the Committee; the Commissioners of DEC and Parks appointed eleven members.
A second meeting of the Regional Advisory Committee will be scheduled for late April. To read the 2009 New York State Open Space Conservation Plan, and to learn more about the Open Space Planning process, follow the link on the right of this page.
