Sugar Hill Fire Tower Recreation Area Open for Season
The Sugar Hill Fire Tower Recreation Area, located on Sugar Hill State Forest, will open for the season on May 18, announced Paul D'Amato, Regional Director of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. This popular outdoor recreational area includes a fire tower, horse stalls, a pavilion, a picnic area and bathrooms. It can be accessed off Tower Hill Road in the towns of Tyrone and Orange in Schuyler County.
Designated campsites are scattered throughout the Sugar Hill State Forest, many of which provide access to the Six Nations trail system. However, camping for more than three consecutive nights or in a group of ten or more requires a permit from a DEC Forest Ranger who can be reached at 607-592-1730.
DEC reminds campers not to move firewood and burn it where you buy it. For more information on Sugar Hill, visit: http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/37446.html.
