DEC Ridge Hunter Check Station Re-Opens Today
Pheasant Hunting Season to Open Thursday
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Ridge Hunter Check Station re-opened Wednesday, November 14, announced DEC Regional Director Peter A. Scully. Pheasants have been stocked in time for Thursday, Nov. 15.
Hunters may check deer in at the Ridge Check Station, located off on Randall Road, north of Middle Country Road (Rte. 25) in Ridge, starting Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The DEC regional headquarters at 50 Circle Road in Stony Brook will continue to check deer when staff is available. Please contact the wildlife unit at (631) 444-0310 prior to bringing your take to the Stony Brook location.
Daily access permits will be in affect starting Thursday, Nov. 15. Bow-hunters can call into the Check Station from noon - 2 p.m. starting Wednesday for early-outs the next day. For more details, please visit the DEC website linked from this page.
Weekend hunting spots for November 17 and 18 will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. Weekend reservations for Nov. 24 and 25 will be taken on Nov. 17 and 18 as previously scheduled. All future reservation dates will occur as scheduled.
Long Island's 4th annual fall turkey hunting season will open at sunrise on Saturday, Nov. 17 and close at sunset on Wednesday, Nov. 21.
The fall turkey season's regulations include:
- Limited 5-day fall hunting season beginning on the third Saturday in November (11/17/12 - 11/21/12)
- Season limit of one bird of either sex
- The use of either archery equipment or shotgun
- Shooting hours: sunrise to sunset
- All participants must carry a valid turkey permit and tag (available wherever hunting licenses are sold)
