Temporary Closures at Fishing Access Sites
Three regional fishing access sites will be temporarily closed to undergo repairs this month, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Region 8 Regional Director Paul D'Amato announced today. Two of the sites are in Monroe County: Sandy Creek in the town of Hamlin and Black Creek in the Town of Chili. The third site is the Woodville fishing access site in South Bristol, Ontario County. During construction activities, boaters and anglers may be temporarily inconvenienced.
In Monroe County:
Sandy Creek fishing access site is expected to be closed for two days beginning Tuesday, Sept. 9, to resurface the east and west parking lots. During this time, the ramp will not be available for use. This revitalization project is being paid for with funds from a natural resources damages lawsuit that resulted in a $12 million settlement reached in 2006 with Occidental Chemical Corporation for pollution that devastated sportfishing in Lake Ontario and the Niagara and St. Lawrence rivers.
The Black Creek fishing access site is slated for a major boat ramp rehabilitation later this month. During construction activities, temporary access for small boats may be found on site by using the old ramp to the east of the ramp under repair.
In Ontario County:
Renovations at the Woodville site are expected to take four days to complete, from Monday, Sept. 15, until Thursday, Sept. 18. During this time the site will be completely closed.
All work is weather dependent. Delays or extension of expected closure dates are possible. For further updates, contact (585) 226-5324.
