DEC Fines County Waste Transfer Corp.

Company Pays $10,000 Penalty for Illegal Waste Disposal

County Waste Transfer Corp. of Clifton Park (Saratoga County) has paid a $10,000 penalty for the illegal disposal of municipal solid waste at a Troy facility that is not permitted to accept the waste, Environmental Conservation Police Major Timothy Duffy announced today.

"Thanks to the good police work by Environmental Conservation Officer Scott Daly we were able to build a strong case and catch the illegal activity in progress," Duffy said. "We want to send a clear message that DEC's Environmental Conservation Police Officers will rigorously enforce our environmental laws for the protection of our public health and environment."

While on patrol January 22 and 23, Officer Daly observed residential garbage trucks entering the facility at 799 Burden Ave. in Troy, a facility he knew did not posses a permit to accept municipal waste. Upon entering the facility, Daly witnessed the illegal transfer of the municipal garbage and initiated enforcement proceedings against County Waste. The transfer station's permit only allows the processing of construction and demolition waste.
