DEC Statement on Whitesboro Spill

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 6 Spills Response Unit immediately responded to a hazardous waste spill at Turbine Engine Components Technologies (TECT) Corporation located at 8273 Halsey Road, Whitesboro, NY. The spill was reported to the NYS spill hotline at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017. TECT employees conducting a routine inspection of a waste storage tank discovered a leak in the containment area that surrounds the waste storage tank. One-hundred gallons of nitric acid solution had leaked into the grass, meeting the notification requirements of Section 17-1743 of the Environmental Conservation Law. The waste water storage tank was aggressively vacuumed and contents properly disposed of. Impacted vegetation is being immediately removed. There was no direct impact to groundwater.

DEC will continue to monitor the area to ensure there are no impacts to the environment.
