Annual Waterfowl Hunter Information Meeting and Tour of Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area and Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) are hosting the annual Waterfowl Hunter Information meeting at the Refuge Headquarters on Casey Road in Alabama, Genesee County. The meeting will take place August 25, 2016 from 7pm - 9pm. Wildlife biologists from Iroquois NWR and NYSDEC will discuss items of interest to waterfowl hunters in an informational and interactive forum.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Highlights of waterfowl management and research programs at Iroquois NWR, Tonawanda, Oak Orchard and Braddock Bay Wildlife Management Areas, including drawdown schedules and hunt program news;
  • Regional and statewide waterfowl news and updates, including waterfowl banding results;
  • Atlantic Flyway news and waterfowl population status; and,
  • NY 2016-17 duck and goose hunting seasons.

The public is invited to return to the complex the following day, August 26th from 1-4PM for a tour of wetland management work on Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area and Iroquois NWR. The event will begin at the Iroquois NWR headquarters with an indoor discussion of wetland management, an overview of the sites that will be visited and conclude with a tour of specific management sites on the complex.


From the NYS Thruway, take Exit 48A (Pembroke) and travel north on Rte. 77 to Alabama Center. Continue north on Rte. 63 for approximately 1 mile, turn left on Casey Rd. The office is about a mile down the road on the right.
