DEC Making Improvements to Parking Lot and Stop Gate at Westdale Dam Fishing Access Site

Access to the Facility will be Limited

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is currently upgrading the parking lot entry to Westdale Dam Fishing Access Town of Camden, Oneida County.

Work will begin soon to replace the Stop Logs located within the drawdown structure at Westdale Dam. Stop Logs, or water gates, are a series of boards that control the amount of water that goes through the dam. The dam will undergo a safety inspection this fall.

The Westdale Dam is a fishing access site is a popular area for fishing the West Branch of Fish Creek. Indications are that individuals have made modifications to the dam, which have the potential to cause harm to the teams who will be attempting repairs.

The public is reminded that the Westdale Fishing access site is to be used for fishing only and alterations to the dam by private parties is illegal and dangerous. Access to the facility will be limited as work gets underway.
