DEC Seeking Public Input on Adirondack Foothills Unit Management Plan

Open House July 20th

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is requesting members of the public give their input on a draft Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the Adirondack Foothills. The area is made up of six state forests; twenty-one detached parcels of forest preserve; and one Office of General Services (OGS) parcel in northern Oneida County and central Herkimer County. The UMP will guide future management of these State Lands over the next ten years. "The goal is to provide a healthy, sustainable, and biologically diverse forest for forest-based recreational opportunities," said Judy Drabicki, Region 6 Director.

The draft Adirondack Foothills UMP documents are available on DEC's website. Copies are also available in electronic format on compact disc and may be requested by calling (315) 866-6330.

DEC will accept public input on the draft UMP at an open house on July 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the following location:

Town of Trenton Public Meeting Room
8520 Old Poland Road
Barneveld, NY 13304

In addition to the open house, public comments can be submitted by mail or email to:

Senior Forester Mary Kay Allen
225 North Main Street
Herkimer, NY 13350

All comments must be received by September 1, 2016. DEC will review these comments as it finalizes the UMP for the Adirondack Foothills.
