Reinstein Woods Holding Recycling Drive

Event Celebrates America Recycles Day on November 14

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), in partnership with Friends of Reinstein Woods, will host a recycling collection drive on Saturday, November 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center in the town of Cheektowaga. The event coincides with America Recycles Day (November 15), a nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the U.S.

America Recycles Day is a national awareness initiative of Keep America Beautiful, in cooperation with state and local partners to help educate how to reduce, reuse and recycle. Thousands of events are being organized across the country to promote environmental citizenship, and encourage action. Reinstein Woods will be accepting:

  • bubble wrap and packing peanuts
  • cell phones
  • #6 polystyrene (clean)
  • rechargeable batteries
  • personal care containers, including:
    • cosmetic containers
      shampoo/conditioner/body wash bottles
      deodorant containers & toothpaste tubes
  • textiles, including:
    • all kinds of clothing
    • sneakers
    • bedding (including pillows)
    • towels
    • curtains
    • throw-rugs (no carpets)
    • handbags, belts, and backpacks
    • stuffed animals/stuffed dolls

Materials do not have to be in usable condition but should be dry. There is no registration required, and you can drop items off at any time during the drive. Materials will be recycled or given to non-profit organizations for reuse.

Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center is located at 93 Honorine Drive in Depew, about three miles from the Walden Galleria mall. Part of the Dr. Victor Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve - a unique 292-acre complex of forests, ponds, and wetlands surrounded by suburban development, Reinstein Woods offers a variety of opportunities to explore and learn about nature for families and people of all ages. In addition to free guided tours of the woods, DEC offers a variety of special programs each month, including snowshoe and ski adventures, walks on seasonal topics, and a fall nature festival. Keep America Beautiful is a national nonprofit that works to encourage individuals to better understand how, why and where they can recycle to divert relevant products from the waste stream. America Recycles Day, was first designated in 1997 and is the only nationally-recognized day and community-driven awareness event dedicated to promoting recycling.
