SPDES Permit Program: Renewing a SPDES Permit
Renewal applications are for facilities that are presently permitted and for which the existing permit is about to expire. SPDES permits for discharges to surface waters are issued for up to five years; permits for discharges to ground waters are issued for up to ten years.
DEC will attempt to mail a renewal application form to you about 10 months in advance of the expiration date of your permit. Please complete and return it at least 6 months (180 days) before the permit expires. This renewal is mailed to the name and address of record. Therefore if the name or address of the permittee changes, please notify the Regional Permit Administrator as soon as possible.
The permittee is responsible for submitting a timely renewal application regardless of whether DEC sent you a renewal application. If you have not received a renewal application, please contact: Bureau of Water Permits, 625 Broadway, Albany, NY 12233-3505; telephone: (518) 402-8111.
