Quadrangle: Sidney.

Reason for Designation: Argillic Oxisol showing A, B, and C horizons as well as the overlying
marine deposits of the Trough Cross-Bedded facies. The advanced degree of pedogenesis observed in the
albic argillisols of Sidney Mountain Quarry and the oxisols reported at Skytop Lane Quarry in the study
area have not been reported elsewhere in NYS. The newly recognized paleosols in the Sonyea Group
have proven to be critical clues to understanding the dynamics of the Catskill shoreline. Sedimentary features
of statewide significance are recorded within the suite of tidally influenced facies at this location.
