Sporting licenses are citizens' authorization to use the state's resources, as well as DEC's principal tool for managing the state's fish and wildlife populations. The Department issues licenses for fishing, hunting, trapping, and commercial shellfish harvesting. The Department also issues special licenses and permits, such as licenses for wildlife rehabilitators and outdoor guides.
Important Dates for 2010-2011
- 2009-10 Fishing, Hunting, and Trapping Licenses are valid until September 30, 2010.
- 2010-11 Fishing, Hunting, and Trapping Licenses may be purchased beginning August 16, 2010.
- Deer Manangment Permits (DMPs)s may be applied for between August 16 - October 1, 2010.
- 2010 Annual Recreational Marine Fishing Licenses are valid until December 31, 2010.
- 2011 Annual Recreational Marine Fishing Licenses (valid 1/1/2011-12/31/2011) may be purchased beginning August 16, 2010.
