Venomous Reptile Interim License
Statutory Authority: ECL Sections 11-0511 and 11-0917 and 6 NYCRR Part 175
In 1996 The Environmental Conservation Law was amended to include all venomous reptiles as regulated species. Briefly, a person MUST first obtain a license from the Department to possess, transport or cause to be transported, import or export any venomous reptile in New York.
The Venomous Reptile Interim License Application is an application for a TEMPORARY license to possess venomous reptiles in New York. The Department of Environmental Conservation is in the process of promulgating regulations that will govern the application process and issuance of a license to possess venomous reptiles. You will be informed when this regulation is effective and you will be required to comply with the provisions of this regulation. Issuance of a Venomous Reptile Interim License does not signify that you will be qualified for a Venomous Reptile License under the forthcoming regulation.
To apply for this license, contact the Division of Fish, Wildlife and Marine Resources Special Licenses Unit.
