I FISH NY - New York City

One of the major goals of the I FISH NY program in New York City is to introduce urban residents to their fishery resources through the sport of angling. I FISH NY in New York City provides free fishing programs for schools, social service organizations, summer camps, and the general public. Equipment, bait and instruction are provided. See below for details of each program type.

Teachers, Educators, Parents - Learn to Fish in the Classroom

I FISH NY instructor teaching about fish ecology

Throughout the five boroughs, the I FISH NY program focuses on bringing fishing education to school students in grades 3 and up through a classroom visit and fishing field trip. Classroom lessons cover fish anatomy and diversity using lesson plans developed in-house which address key ideas from the MST-Living Environment Section of the NYS Learning Standards as well as Common Core Standards. Fishing trips are to a fresh or saltwater location as close to the school as possible. We bring all the necessary fishing gear and bait; the school must provide transportation to the fishing spot.

Group Leaders, After School, Special Groups - Fishing instruction for your group

I FISH NY in NYC provides free fishing programs to groups outside of the regular classroom such as after-school programs, summer youth camps, senior centers and other social service providers. We also provide train-the-trainer programs.

Public Fishing Clinics

I FISH NY in New York City conducts several fishing clinics every year, usually in partnership with local organizations or concurrent with waterfront events. These clinics are free and open to the public. They present information on marine/aquatic ecology, fishing regulations and fish consumption advisories. Since most are designated "free fishing events," participants will not need to enroll in the Marine Registry or possess a NYS fishing license while fishing at an I FISH NY event.
