The pine barrens includes more than 2,700 acres of upland; mixed oak and pine woodland. The facility features trails through classic pine barrens habitat with hiking, biking, horseback riding, and seasonal hunting with opportunities for small- and big-game. Nearby lands include the Westhampton Management Area south of the Sunrise Highway.
Consult hunting on Long Island for information on hunting opportunities and obtaining hunting permits.
Recreationists must observe regulations for use of NYSDEC managed lands in Suffolk County.
Seasonal access permit required.

Field Trail Road that runs through the ine Barres is one of the Department's Motorized Access for People With Disabilities (MAPPWD) routes on Long Island.
