  • William C. Whitney Wilderness Area - The William C. Whitney area offeres a variety of passive recreational activities within a "wilderness" setting.
  • High Peaks Wilderness Area - This is the largest wilderness area and is located in three counties and six towns; the town of Harrietstown in Franklin County, the towns of North Elba, Keene, North Hudson and Newcomb in Essex County and the town of Long Lake in Hamilton County.
  • Hiking Trails Outside the High Peaks Area - Thees hikes offer excellent opportunities for hikers preferring to seek alternates to many of the high use trails in the High Peaks Wilderness.
