General Fishing Information
Rainbow trout, brook trout and largemouth bass are the main gamefish found in the lake. Black crappie, pumpkinseed sunfish, bluegill and brown bullhead can also be caught in the lake. Most anglers target the trout during spring and early-summer shortly after they're stocked. Good baits are worms, salted minnows, artificial natural baits (like Gulp or PowerBait) or corn fished under a bobber. Flies, spinners, small stickbaits and spoons will also work for the trout.
Bowman Lake is stocked annually with approximately 700 year-old brook trout (8-9") and 1,500 year-old rainbow trout (8-9"). Bowman Lake was stocked in the summer of 2006 with largemouth bass, pumpkinseed sunfish, bluegill, black crappie and brown bullhead. Special fishing regulations exist for trout in Chenango County, so please review the Special Regulations by County section of your Freshwater Fishing Guide.
