Lake George Wild Forest
The Lake George Wild Forest consists of approximately 71,133 acres of State Forest Preserve lands in the southeastern Adirondacks in the towns of Bolton, Chester, Hague, Horicon, Lake George, Lake Luzerne, Queensbury and Warrensburg in Warren County and the towns of Dresden, Fort Ann, and Putnam in Washington County and is generally bounded on the north by the Warren County line, on the west by the Hudson River, and on the south and east by the Adirondack Park boundary. The Lake George Wild Forest contains miles of marked trails available to explore, allowing the public to easily access a variety of majestic natural attractions such as Black Mountain, Shelving Rock, and Prospect Mountain.
Recreationists also enjoy year-round activities on Lake George, and popular fishing and camping locations at Lily Pond, Jabe Pond, Gay Pond and Palmer Pond. The Lake George Wild Forest is a popular area for motorized recreational uses and ice fishing, and serves as an important link with the adjoining snowmobile trail network. In addition, the Hudson River Recreation Area of the Lake George Wild Forest enables the public to experience a unique flatwater environment and other recreation opportunities along this historic waterway.

Bear Slide trail
Bear Slide
Accessible campsite and privy, accessible trail with parking and picnic tables. Road to this area is open to vehicles only by Motorized Access Program for People with Disabilities (MAPPWD) permit holders.
Directions to Bear Slide: From Exit 21 (Lake George) of State Route 87 take Route 9N west towards Lake Luzerne for approximately 9.7 miles. At 9.7 miles turn right onto Mill Street, this is the first right after passing the Lake Luzerne Elementary School. Take Mill Street to its end at the intersection with River Road, turn right onto River Road. Stay on River Road for approximately 6.8 miles. At 6.8 miles there is a large parking area at the town line between Lake Luzerne and Warrensburg. At the north end of the parking area take the road to the right, there is a gate at .1 mile past the parking area, the combination is available to MAPPWD permit holders. Only MAPPWD permit holders may proceed past the gate with a motor vehicle. Continue on the Bear Slide Access Route for .3 mile to a designated campsite, the privy at this site is the last one available on this route. Continue on the Bear Slide Access Route for an additional .3 mile to the parking area and accessible trail to the Bear Slide.

Pikes Beach

Directions to Pikes Beach: From Exit 21 (Lake George) of State Route 87 take Route 9N west towards Lake Luzerne for approximately 9.7 miles. At 9.7 miles turn right onto Mill Street, this is the first right after passing the Lake Luzerne Elementary School. Take Mill Street to its end at the intersection with River Road, turn right onto River Road. Stay on River Road for approximately 2.6 miles. At 2.6 miles turn left onto the dirt access road for Pikes Beach, there are Forest Preserve signs and 2 designated tent sites.

Schofield Flats

Directions to Schofield Flats: From Exit 21 (Lake George) of State Route 87 take Route 9N west towards Lake Luzerne for approximately 9.7 miles. At 9.7 miles turn right onto Mill Street, this is the first right after passing the Lake Luzerne Elementary School. Take Mill Street to its end at the intersection with River Road, turn right onto River Road. Stay on River Road for approximately 2.3 miles. At 2.3 miles turn left onto the dirt access road for Schofield Flats, there are Forest Preserve signs and 2 designated tent sites.

Lake George Horse Trails
Equestrian mounting platforms at Dacy Clearing and Upper Hogtown Road.
Directions to Lake George Horse Trails: Exit 20 off I-87 to Route 149. Travel approximately 6 miles east to turn left onto Buttermilk Falls Road. Travel 3 miles to junction of Sly Pond Road, bear left and travel approximately 7 miles to Hogtown parking lot. Travel approximately 1 mile to the second platform at Dacy Clearing.
