Public Use of Wetlands Restricted Area

2016 Hunting Season

All hunters, if hunting on the "wetlands restricted" areas, MUST register in person at the permit station each day that they hunt.

  1. September Goose Hunting Season: September 1 through September 25.
    Hunters must register in person at the check station by signing in at the registration box. Hunters must provide all information as directed by posted notice. Hunting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise to 12:00 PM and hunters must leave the area by 2:00 PM.
  2. Youth Waterfowl Hunting Days: September 17 and September 18.
    Hunters must register in person at the check station by signing in at the registration box. Hunters must provide all information as directed by posted notice. Hunting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise to 12:00 PM and hunters must leave the area by 2:00 PM.
  3. Northeastern Zone Duck Hunting Season: October 8 - through 30; November 5 through December 11: Opening weekend (October 8 & 9): Duck hunters must obtain day use permit from staffed check station unless directed by posted notice.
    • Rest of Season: Duck hunters must register in person at the check station by signing in at the registration box. Daily permits: Hunters must obtain a daily permit at the permit station on the following dates unless directed otherwise by posted notice.
  4. Duck hunting hours and check out times:
    • Opening day (October 8): Hunting hours are from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Waterfowl check station opens 7:00 AM to begin permit processing. Hunters may enter the marsh after permit issuance and must check out by 4:00 PM. Hunters MUST SUBMIT their take for examination at the permit station before leaving the area.
    • Second day (October 9): Hunting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise to 12:00 PM. Hunters must leave the area by 2:00 PM. Hunters must submit their take for examination at the check station before leaving the area.
    • On all other days of the season: Hunting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise, to 12:00 PM. Waterfowl check station opens no later than one hour before legal shooting time. Hunters may enter the marsh after permit issuance and must check out by 2:00 PM. Hunters must submit their take for examination at the check station before leaving the area.
  5. Regular Goose Hunting Season: October 22 through November 14 and November 16 through December 11. Hunters must register in person at the check station by signing in at the registration box. Hunters must provide all information as directed. Hunting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise to 12:00 PM and hunters must leave the area by 2:00 PM.
  6. Migratory Bird Harvest Information Program (HIP): All migratory bird hunters are required to register with the HIP program. To register call 1-888-427-5447 or register on line at http://www.ny-hip.com/
  7. Upland game (Big game and Small game) hunters: If hunting in "wetlands restricted area", upland game hunters must sign in at registration box and provide all requested information. Access to hunting areas is by foot only. State-wide regulations apply.
  8. Rules and Regulations: It is the responsibility of all hunters to know and abide by the rules and regulations. Rules and regulations are available at the waterfowl permit station and the Bureau of Wildlife office in Watertown during normal business hours (315) 785-2263.
  9. No motorized boats allowed. Park in designated parking areas only.
