Public Use of Wetlands Restricted Area

2015 Hunting Season

All hunters, if hunting on the "wetlands restricted" areas, MUST register in person at the permit station each day that they hunt.

  1. Early goose hunting season: September 1 through September 25
    Hunting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise to 12:00 PM and hunters must leave the area by 2:00 PM. Hunters must provide all information as directed by posted notice at the registration box.
  2. Youth waterfowl hunting days: September 19 and September 20
    Hunting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise to 12:00 PM and hunters must leave the area by 2:00 PM. Hunters must provide all information as directed by posted notice at the registration box.
  3. Northeastern zone waterfowl hunting season: Waterfowl hunters must obtain daily permits on OPENING WEEKEND of the northeastern zone (October 3 & 4). All other days of the northeastern zone they must register at the waterfowl permit station as follows;
    • Daily permits: Hunters must obtain a daily permit at the permit station on the following dates unless directed otherwise by posted notice. October 3 and 4 See hours below.
    • Registration box: Hunters must register in person at the permit station on all other days of the waterfowl season by signing in at the registration box. Hunters must provide all information as directed by posted notice at the registration box.
  4. Waterfowl hunting hours and check out times:
    • Opening day (October 3): Hunting hours are from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Waterfowl permit station opens 7:00 AM to begin permit processing. Hunters may enter the marsh after permit issuance and must check out by 4:00 PM. Hunters MUST SUBMIT their take for examination at the permit station before leaving the area.
    • Second day (October 4): Waterfowl permit station opens no later than 1 hour before legal shooting time and hunters may enter the marsh after permit issuance. Hunters MUST SUBMIT their take for examination at the permit station before leaving the area.
    • On all other days of the Northeastern Zone waterfowl season hunting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise, to 12:00 PM and off the area by 2:00pm. Hunters must sign in at the check station on each day of their hunt.
  5. Northeastern zone: Regular goose season is open October 24 through November 15, and November 17 through December 13. Duck season is open October 3 through October 11, and October 24 through December 13.
  6. Migratory Bird Harvest Information Program (HIP): All migratory bird hunters are required to register with the HIP program. To register call 1-888-427-5447 or register on line at http://www.ny-hip.com/
  7. Upland game (Big game and Small game) hunters must register by personal appearance at the waterfowl permit station each day of any upland game hunting season. Access to hunting areas is by foot only.
  8. Rules and Regulations: It is the responsibility of all hunters to know and abide by the rules and regulations. Rules and regulations are available at the waterfowl permit station and the Bureau of Wildlife office in Watertown during normal business hours (315) 785-2263.
  9. You may lose your hunting privileges for violating the terms of a permit, rules and regulations, any violation of the conservation law, or other law.
