Hunting Procedures

**Waterfowl, small game and archery hunting:

The season dates listed above are the dates the cooperative area is open for hunting. Hunters must still adhere to the species specific season dates as listed in the 2007-2008 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Guide and the 2007-2008 Waterfowl Hunting Seasons and Regulations.

Seasonal access permits (42k pdf) are required to hunt on the East Hampton Cooperative Area. These can be obtained in person at the Ridge Hunter Check Station while open, or in person or by mail at the NYS DEC Sporting License Office in Stony Brook . You must show your hunting license when applying for a hunting permit. Maximum party size for small game hunting is three individuals, and an individual or party shall not be afield with more than two dogs. Maximum party size for big game hunting is two individuals. Hunters must park in marked parking spots and are not permitted to park from 1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise.

Firearms deer hunting:

Daily permits are required. Those eligible to select a date and site to hunt select NYSDEC-managed areas will be determined by a random drawing held on the first Tuesday of December. For specifics on the January deer season and how to enter the drawing, send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to Deer Info-State Lands, SUNY @ Stony Brook, 50 Circle Road, Stony Brook NY 11790-3409, in early October. Maximum party size for firearms deer hunting is two individuals.
