Stocked Trout Streams in Western New York

In a given stocked stream section, most bridges receive trout at every stocking (usually one or two per spring). If there are sufficient volunteers along to carry fish away from the trucks, areas in between the bridges are sometimes done, provided that they are not posted against fishing and are totally open to the public for angling. Posted sections of streams are not stocked with trout.

Legend

  • PFR : Public fishing rights, which are public rights-of-way through otherwise private land. Please be considerate of the landowner and their property. Yellow "Public Fishing Area" signs are posted along sections of streams with PFR. Maps are available for all streams with PFR.
  • Open by owners : Stocked sections of streams without PFR that are open to fishing by willing landowners. Respect their property or you risk losing public access to these streams. Sections of streams posted against fishing by landowners are not stocked with trout by the state.
  • Bold text : Streams that are stocked, but also support some wild trout.
  • Blue text : Streams with PFR, click on text to link to PFR map for that stream.
  • ** : Streams that are also stocked with larger two-year-old brown trout (13"-16").
  • Species : BT - Brown trout, RT - Rainbow trout, ST - Brook trout
