Fishing Access for Anglers with Disabilities

The following is a list, by county, of fishing access sites for anglers with disabilities.

Although every effort is made to keep this information current, please confirm the availablity of facilities with the appropriate DEC Regional Office.

Allegany County

Allen Lake - Town of Allen. From Belfast, cross the Genesee River (county route 26), take a left on East River Road, then a right onto East Hill Road. Take second right turn onto Townline Road, then first left on Muckle Road. The driveway to the lake is on the left.

Cattaraugus County

Harwood Lake - Town of Farmersville. From Franklinville, take route 16 north to route 98 north for approximately five miles, lake is on the right.

New Albion Lake - Town of New Albion. Head north from Little Valley on route 353, take a left on county route 5, approximately six miles, lake is on the left.

Chautauqua County

Chautauqua Lake - at Bemus and Prendergast Points

Findley Lake - Town of Mina. Take the southern tier expressway (route 17) west of Jamestown to the Findley Lake exit (route 430).

Lake Erie - Dunkirk Fishing Platform

Chenango County

Genegantslet Creek - off Art Lake Road, Town of Smithville

Clinton County

Saranac River - City of Plattsburgh near MacDonough Monument

Hudson River - at Germantown

Casterline Pond - off NY Route 11, Town of Homer

Delaware County

Launt Pond - at Bear Spring Mountain Public Campground

Little Pond - from Route 30 in Margaretville, south 6 miles to New York City Road to Barkaboom Road.

Essex County

Lachute River - at Lower Falls and hydro project in Ticonderoga

Stevens Pond - at start of Toll Road to Whiteface Mt.

Franklin County

Salmon River - at Ballard Mills hydro project in City of Malone

Herkimer County

Mohawk River

  • at Moss Island Park in Little Falls adjacent to Lock 17 of the Barge Canal
  • in the Village of Herkimer on East Washington Street
  • in the Village of Ilion where Route 51 crosses the Barge Canal
  • in the Village of Mohawk at Fulmer Creek off Route 5
  • in the Village of Frankfort at the end of Fox Street off Railroad Street
  • in the Town of Frankfort, off old Route 5S

Jefferson County

Black River - at the Village of Dexter boat launch

South Sandy Creek - at Route 3

St. Lawrence River - at DEC Cape Vincent Fisheries Research Station off Route 12E in the Village of Cape Vincent

Lewis County

Black River - off Route 812 in Dadville

West Branch Oswegatchie River - with access to Mudd Pond, on Long Pond Road, Town of Croghan

Livingston County

Caledonia Fish Hatchery

Madison County

Upper Lelands Pond - Route 26 south of junction with Route 46

Monroe County

Genesee River(west shore)- north end of St. Paul Blvd. (Rochester)

Slater Creek - Beach Avenue adjacent to power plant warm water pond connected to Lake Ontario (Town of Greece)

  • at Amsterdam
  • at Lock 10 of the Barge Canal
  • at Nelliston

Oneida County

Mohawk River

  • at Lock 20 of the Barge Canal at Canal Park in Marcy
  • at Lock 22 of the Barge Canal on Wood Creek Road; off Route 49, west of New London
  • in New London, off Route 49

West Branch Fish Creek - in the Village of Camden, one block west of Rte 13 on NY Rte 69

Chittning Pond - east of Sangerfield on Route 20

Oriskany Creek - in the Village of Orisdany Fall, Cooper Street, one block off Route 12E

Onondaga County

Oneida Lake - off Bartel Road at the I-81 Crossing, Town of Cicero

Oneida Lake - off Swamp Road at the I-81 Crossing, Town of Hastings

Orleans County

Oak Orchard Creek - in Oak Orchard, along shoreline connecting Lake Ontario

Oswego County

Oneida Lake - off Shaw Road from Toad Harbor, Town of West Monroe

Salmon River - off NY Route 3, Town of Richland

Otsego County

Basswood Pond - from hamlet of Burlington (Otsego Co.) take Co. Rt. 16 north for 1.4 miles - Turn left on Basswood Road and follow DEC signs to the pond (Note: Basswood Pond drained for maintenance fall of 1999, will be open for fishing in Spring 2000)

Putnam County

White Pond - in the Town of Kent, take Route 301 east to County Route 42, follow Farmers Mills Road east to White Pond Road

Schoharie County

Looking Glass Pond - County Route 20 to Rossman Hill Road

Eminence State Forest - in the Town of Fulton off State Route 30

Steuben County

Birdseye Hollow - County Route 96

St. Lawrence County

Cranberry Lake - Cranberry Lake Campground 1.5 miles south on Lone Pine Road

Suffolk County

Shinnecock Bay - Ponquoque Bridge Fishing Pier

Mongaup Pond - at Mongaup Pond Campground, Route 17 to Exit 96, east on Debruce Road to Debruce, north past Catskill Fish Hatchery

Basha Kill - at Bashakill Wildlife Management Area, from Route 17 near the Village of Wurtsboro, south on Route 209 6 miles to Westbrookville, east on Otisville Road, County Route 163, north on South Road

Willowemoc Creek:

  • at Livingston Manor below Catskill Flyfishing Center
  • at Hazel, Town of Rockland

Wayne County

Port Bay:

  • at north end of West Port Bay Road, north of the Village of Wolcott
  • at southwest corner of Port Bay off North Port Bay Road
