Hurricane Mountain Fire Tower Historic Area - Draft Unit Management Plan
The Hurricane Mountain Fire Tower Historic Area (HMFTHA) is a 0.5-acre parcel of land in the Town of Keene, Essex County. The dominant feature within the Historic Area is a fire tower, which was closed as a fire observation station in 1979 and has not been maintained since.
The Department has completed a Draft Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the HMFTHA, which proposes to resume maintenance of the fire tower for interpretive and educational purposes. The Plan also proposes that a radio repeater be installed in the tower for emergency management purposes. The public comment period for the Draft UMP is now closed, but if you have questions about the UMP process, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
