Hurricane Mountain Fire Tower Historic Area - Unit Management Plan

The Hurricane Mountain Fire Tower Historic Area (HMFTHA) is a 0.5-acre parcel of land in the Town of Keene, Essex County. The dominant feature within the Historic Area is a fire tower, which was closed as a fire observation station in 1979 and has not been maintained since.

The Department has completed a Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the HMFTHA, which proposes to resume maintenance of the fire tower for interpretive and educational purposes. The Plan also proposes that a radio repeater be installed in the tower for emergency management purposes. If you have questions about the UMP, please contact us at adirondackpark@dec.ny.gov.
