Taylor Pond Management Complex - Unit Management Plan
The Department has completed a Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the Taylor Pond Management Complex. The unit is spread over a 567 square mile area in the northeastern Adirondack Park, and consists of 26 separate parcels of state land totaling 53,280 acres. Of this, 45,637 acres are Forest Preserve, 6,314 acres are State Forest and 1,329 acres are Wildlife Management Area. All of the state lands subject to this UMP are classified as Wild Forest by the Adirondack Park State Land Master Plan (APSLMP). These land units include:
- Taylor Pond Wild Forest
- Wickham Marsh Wildlife Management Area
- Ausable Marsh Wildlife Management Area
- Pauline Murdock Wildlife Management Area
- Clinton County State Forest Areas 2, 3 and 4
Additionally, there are several conservation easements included in the UMP because of their contiguity with the state lands in the area:
- Franklin Falls Timber Conservation Easement
- Cook Mountain Conservation Easement
- Alderbrook Park Conservation Easement
- Lyme Adirondack Timber Lands LLC
Summary of Management Proposals
- Create parking for and officially designate trail to top of Catamount Mountain
- Provide new parking for trail to Poke-O-Moonshine fire tower
- Create new parking area for the Military Pond trail
- Classify snowmobile trail system to better connect local communities
- Designate group camping sites at Union Falls Pond and Franklin Falls Pond along Northern Forest Canoe Trail
