13. Visitors from Across the Oceans
Since the Hudson is an arm of the sea, ocean-going vessels can navigate the Hudson all the way to Albany. The shipping channel in the river must be kept at least 32 feet deep for these ships. They bring gypsum, oil, molasses and other cargoes to the Port of Albany, and take away grain, heavy machinery and scrap metal.
