15. The Food Web in the Hudson
Alive and green or dead and decaying, plants in the Hudson's shallow areas provide food and shelter for small fish, crabs, and macroinvertebrates, including insect larvae and tiny crustaceans. These creatures are in turn eaten by larger fish, birds, and other predators. All are vital links in the Hudson's food web.
