Nelson Swamp
The Nelson Swamp Unique Area is located in the west central section of Madison County within the Townships of Nelson, Cazenovia and Fenner. It is approximately 20 miles southeast of Syracuse and 13 miles southwest of Oneida.
We recognize Nelson Swamp to be an exhibit of unique and uncommon environmental values within the rapidly changing landscape of Central New York.
Using $175,000 from the EPF and Bond Act, DEC has added more than 300 acres to its existing holdings at the biologically significant Nelson Swamp that boasts 400-year old white pines and rare flora.
