Sable Highlands Conservation Easement - Interim Recreation Management Plan
In December of 2008, Chateaugay Woodlands LLC entered into a purchase and sale contract with the State of New York to sell a conservation easement on an approximately 84,000 acre portion of the lands which formerly constituted the Domtar Industries Inc. Adirondack Forest. The conservation easement agreement, dubbed the Sable Highlands Easement, opens 28,105 acres of land and water located in designated Public Recreation Use Areas to the public for hiking, fishing, hunting, canoeing and a variety of other recreational uses. The Sable Highlands Easement properties are located in the Towns of Franklin and Bellmont, Franklin County and the Towns of Ellenburg and Saranac, Clinton County.
