Slide Mountain Wilderness Area - Unit Management Plan

Located in Ulster County, the Slide Mountain Wilderness is the largest of the five designated wilderness areas in the Catskills with a total of 47,500 acres. With a variety of recreational opportunities available for public use, the unit is also one of the most popular wilderness areas.

2008 Catskill Park State Land Master Plan

In August 2008, DEC finalized the revision of the Catskill Park State Land Master Plan. Prior to the plan's adoption, the Slide Mountain Wilderness Area was called the Slide Mountain-Panther Mountain Wilderness Area. A unit management plan (UMP) for the Slide Mountain-Panther Mountain Wilderness was completed in 1998. If you have questions or would like to obtain a copy of the UMP, please contact us at r3.ump@dec.ny.gov.
