Commissioner Grannis Announces 2008 Hudson River Estuary Grants
Dear Applicants:
I am pleased to announce the availability of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Hudson River Estuary Grant Program (HRE) request for applications. This is the 10th consecutive year that HRE grants are being made available to municipalities and not-for-profit corporations for projects that help implement certain priorities included in the Hudson River Estuary Action Agenda, 2005-2009. The Hudson River Estuary Program is a unique regional partnership founded on the principles of ecosystem management leading to the restoration of the Hudson River and its watershed. This year, we intend to focus on grants that will help New York prepare for the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial celebration in 2009 with a program of accomplishments that further the Estuary Action Agenda goals of river restoration.
For SFY 2008-2009 a minimum of $1,000,000 will be available in State Environmental Protection Funds with a minimum grant of $10,000 and a maximum of $100,000. Estuary grants are available in five categories:
- Community Interpretive Centers and Education
- Open Space Planning and Acquisition
- Community-based Habitat Conservation and Stewardship
- Watershed Planning and Implementation
- Hudson River Access
The deadline for applications is June 27, 2008. The Estuary Program will participate in three workshops to further explain the program which will be held at Locust Grove, Poughkeepsie, Saratoga Spa State Park, and Eldridge Street Synagogue, Manhattan. A copy of the workshop schedule is enclosed for your information.
