Land and Conservation Easement Acquisitions: Second Quarter 2007

In accordance with the State Open Space Conservation Plan, the Bureau of Real Property performs all aspects of the land and conservation easement acquisition process, from appraisals and boundary surveys through negotiations and contracts.

The following are highlights of land and conservation easement acquisitions executed by the Division of Lands and Forests Bureau of Real Property on behalf of the people of the State of New York.

Second Quarter (April - June) of 2007

Addition to Bare Hill Unique Area
Location: Town of Gorham, Ontario County
Size: 95.84 acres
ID: UA Ontario 39
Description: The property fronts on County Route 11 and is located on the eastern hillsides of Canandaigua Lake. The parcel is located approximately 1.5 miles north of the Bare Hill Unique Area and exhibits similar features such as steep slopes, lake views and important viewshed components.

Butternut Creek Stream Rights
Location: Town of LaFayette, Onondaga County

Addition to Long Island Pine Barrens
Location: Town of Brookhaven (Manorville), Suffolk County
Size: 21.7 acres

Description: Provided to State by Suffolk County through a U.S. District Court Consent Order. Borders the east side of Wading River Road, between North Street and the Long Island Railroad. Vacant, level, wooded parcel within the Pine Barrens Core Preservation Area.

Location: Town of Southampton, Suffolk County
Size: 49 acres

Description: Two vacant parcels straddling Sunrise Highway (State Route 27) consisting of wooded, slightly undulating land within the Pine Barrens Core Preservation Area.

Location: Town of Hempstead, Nassau County

Description: Predominantly tidal wetlands with adjacent upland buffer bordering Bedell Creek. The property offers an excellent opportunity for public education and kayak access as well as wetland restoration.

Size: 0.129 acre parking area, 10' wide footpath and 0.114 equivalent miles of fishing rights easement.
