2. Food from the Hudson River

Recreational fishing on the Hudson River
Centuries ago, the Hudson provided abundant food for Native Americans. Later, European settlers set their tables from the river, fishing for sturgeon, shad, oysters, and many other species.
Today, anglers along the Hudson are as likely to be fishing for recreation as for food. The legacy of years of pollution has limited commercial fishing and led to advisories against eating regular meals of Hudson River fish. There are small commercial fisheries for American shad and blue crab.
