William C. Whitney Wilderness - Stewardship Management Plan

The William C. Whitney Wilderness Area is a 20,500 acre area located in the Town of Long Lake in Hamilton County. Located near the geographic center of the Adirondack Park, the property was acquired by the State of New York in 1997.

Status of the UMP

The William C. Whitney Wilderness is currently being managed under a Stewardship Plan adopted in 1998. The Department is developing a Draft Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the area. If you have questions about the UMP process, please e-mail us at r6.ump@dec.ny.gov.
