Macroinvertebrate Community Structure in the Mohawk River: Gradients in Water Quality Conditions and Implications for Restoration
Through funding provided by DEC's Mohawk River Basin Program, the Onondaga Environmental Institute conducted a macroinvertebrate survey of 56 sites along a 166 km section of the Mohawk River between Marcy and Waterford, New York. Performed in 2014 and 2015, this survey showed fluctuations in stream condition largely attributed to negative impacts of channelization and canalization of the Mohawk River on macroinvertebrate community structure. The results of this study demonstrate the importance of habitat diversity and refugia on improving macroinvertebrate community structure and water quality in the Mohawk River. The results of this study can be found in this report, Macroinvertebrate Community Structure in the Mohawk River (PDF, 2.2 KB).
