Mount Van Hoevenberg Intensive Use Area - Unit Management Plan

The Mount Van Hoevenberg Winter Recreation Area Intensive Use Area, also known as the Olympic Sports Complex at Mount Van Hoevenberg, is located in the Town of North Elba, Essex County, approximately seven miles southeast of the Village of Lake Placid. The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) provides facility management under a Memorandum of Understanding between ORDA and the Department.

Status of the UMP

The Department and ORDA adopted the original Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the Mount Van Hoevenberg Intensive Use Area in 1986, and an updated UMP was adopted in 1999. If you have questions or would like to obtain a copy of the UMP, please contact us at

2016 Draft Amendment - Trail Relocation

This amendment proposes to relocate two parallel improved cross country trail segments, approximately 1,200 feet in length, from private land onto Forest Preserve.
