Free Fishing Days Scheduled
DEC has scheduled free fishing events in each of its nine regions and as well as the state's annual free fishing weekend scheduled for June 28 and 29.
Proposed Regulations for Clean Air
Proposed Part 215 would ban the open burning of all materials including household refuse (garbage), paper materials, leaves and yard wastes with some specific exceptions. Proposed Part 242, the CO2 Budget Trading Program, represents the State's commitment under the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). RGGI is an agreement among ten states to cap and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

Alewife Die-off on Lake Champlain
A major die-off of alewives, a fish that is an invasive species to inland waters in New York, has continued on the surface and shores of Lake Champlain.
Green Schools Challenge Encourages Students to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
This is a wonderful opportunity for teaching children about environmental stewardship while putting their lessons into action; it also piggybacks with planning measures recently introduced to encourage more schools to be environmentally friendly.
Hudson River Estuary Grants
Approximately $1 million is available to help support projects that protect and enhance estuary resources, increase public awareness, and provide access to the Hudson, among other restoration goals. The deadline for applications is June 27.
Applications Being Accepted for Environmental Excellence Awards
This awards program recognizes New York's environmental and conservation leaders, who are solving environmental challenges by using innovative and environmentally sustainable practices or creative partnerships. Applications will be accepted until June 20.
Urban and Community Forestry Grants
$900,000 in grants will be available to municipalities and others for tree inventories and management plans; tree and shrub planting and maintenance; and green infrastructure projects including green roofs and raingardens.
Central Catskill Park/ Mountains Smart Growth Grants
Applications will be accepted for capital improvement projects within six eligible communities along the Route 28 corridor of the Central Catskill Mountains. Applications will be accepted through June 20.
Catskill Park State Land Master Plan
A new proposed Catskill Park State Land Master Plan has been released is available for public review and comment until May 19, 2008.
