Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Camping Opportunity
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is offering a Becoming an Outdoors-Woman® camping workshop July 16-18 at its Mongaup Pond campground in the southern Catskills near Livingston Manor, Sullivan County. This is the seventeenth year DEC has offered this workshop.
Designed to provide women the opportunity to learn outdoor skills in a fun-filled and stress-free atmosphere, these clinics have been extremely popular in part because of the experienced and knowledgeable instructors that teach the classes. In addition to camping skills-setting up a tent, using a camp stove, cooking with a Dutch oven and starting a fire-other classes offered include plant identification, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, geocaching, wildlife in the Catskills, trail bicycling, hiking and keeping wildlife out of your campsite.

Participants must bring their own tents, camping equipment and food.
The minimum age for participants is 18. No camping experience is necessary; however, campers must bring their own tents, camping equipment and most of their own food. Women with camping experience are also welcome to participate. The early registration fee is $65 and includes a campsite for two nights, instruction in all sessions and evening programs, program materials, use of equipment and some meals and snacks.
Workshop information and registration materials are available on DEC's website. Information is also available by calling DEC at 518-402-8862 or by writing to "Becoming an Outdoors-Woman," NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation, 625 Broadway, Albany, NY 12233-4754.
